To cancel a flexible fare ticket you received by post (with or without BahnCard discount), we offer a form that is available online. Please fill in this form and send it with your tickets to the address specified on the form or drop it off at a DB Travel Centre.

If your ticket includes products that require reservations, for example a seat reservation (e.g. IC Bus), please include the corresponding receipts.

Fee for flexible fare tickets for long-distance trains (ICE, IC/EC, IC Bus):
Before the first day of validity of the outbound journey, cancellation of the ticket is free of charge
On or after the first day of validity of the outbound journey, cancellations are subject to a fee of EUR 19.

Fee for flexible fare tickets for regional and local trains (IRE, RE, RB, S-Bahn):
Before the first day of validity of the outbound journey, cancellation of the ticket is free of charge
On or after the first day of validity of the outbound journey cancellations are subject to a fee of EUR 17.50.

The Program

DB’s International Internship Program offers international students an internship in Germany every year.​

During your internship at Deutsche Bahn AG you will work full-time at one of our attractive locations in Germany.​ At DB you will have the opportunity to apply your theoretical knowledge and learn on the job.​ You will be involved in our daily business right from the start and take on responsibility projects of your team.​ You will be supervised by a colleague of your team during your internship.​ Plus you have the chance to practice and improve your German skills in everyday work and as part of our language buddy program.​

Your Profile:

  • You are studying Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Transport Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Economics/​Business Administration, Informatics, Mathematics, Logistics, Law, Psychology etc.​
  • First practical experiences
  • Good communication skills
  • Intercultural competence
  • Mobility and flexibility
  • Intermediate knowledge of German (company language), intermediate knowledge of English preferable
  • Good knowledge of MS-Office tools


Your application should be in English or German.​ It includes a cover letter, your CV, your transcript of records and information about your German skills.​Applicants send an application stating their general area of interest e.​g.​ construction planning, transport and logistics, strategy, marketing, communications, finance, etc.​ Throughout the application process the application management checks the applications according to the above stated requirements and matches them with departments and current projects.​ This way the best match is possible even though the student might not apply to a special internship position.​Applications are welcome anytime throughout the year.​ The application and administration process takes about 2-6 months (also depending on Visa and work permit regulations).​ Applications should be submitted 2-6 months before the planned start of the internship.​
